I recently decided to invest in an EGO Electric Lawn Mower – EGO POWER+ 56-volt 21-in Self-propelled Cordless Lawn Mower 6 Ah (Battery Included) as I wanted to maintain my own yard and eliminate the lawncare bill. Also, my lawn is pretty flat in the front and I don’t have bushes that have to be trimmed or cut. Half of my rear yard is a hot mess with no grass on the back half (I’m working on having areas re-graded). The other part of the rear yard is covered in zoysia grass that grows very slowly and doesn’t really require a ton of maintenance or mowing.
After doing a ton of research, I narrowed my choice down to the EGO brand of lawnmowers. Here is my review of my new EGO Self Propelled Lawn Mower and if you happen to be a lady, this is the perfect lawnmower for you. It’s a great lawnmower for men as well.
If you’re tired of the noise and hassle of gas-powered lawn mowers, or simply want to reduce your carbon footprint, you might be interested in an electric lawn mower. Let me introduce you to EGO Power+, which produces a range of electric lawnmowers that are gaining popularity among homeowners.

I also happen to be committed to reducing my own carbon footprint. Well, say goodbye to those days of noise with the Ego Power Brand of mowers and equipment. If you want to know how the EGO Power Mower stacks up to a traditional gas mower, then read the Consumer Reports article on Lawn Mower Face-Off: Ego Battery-Powered Electric Mower vs. Honda Gas Mower.
In this article, we’ll dive deep into the features, benefits, and drawbacks of the Ego Power Mower. I purchased the EGO POWER+ 56-volt 21-in Self-propelled Cordless Lawn Mower 6 Ah LM2114SP (Battery Included) at Lowes. Before we jump in, let me point out that I’ve used my EGO electric power mower twice at the time of writing this article. The most recent time, I had so much fun using it that I spent 6+ hours in my yard, mowing, cleaning, pruning, etc. I even cut my neighbor’s yard. It is so lightweight and easy to use. The self-propelled feature makes it a breeze to use as my neighbor’s house sits up on a hill. I opted to put the bag on the rear of it and catch all the grass clippings which I then put into lawn bags for pick-up. I am not the outdoor, cut-the-grass type of person…. so I’m telling you if I can do this then so can you.

Features
The Ego Power Mower is packed with features that set it apart from traditional gas-powered mowers. Let’s take a look at some of the key features:
- Cordless: The Ego Power Mower is battery-powered, which means you won’t have to worry about tangled cords or finding a nearby power source. The batteries can last up to an hour, depending on the model.
- Lightweight: At only 56 pounds, the Ego Power Mower is significantly lighter than most gas-powered mowers. This makes it easy to maneuver around your lawn, even if you have hills or uneven terrain.
- Quiet: Unlike gas-powered mowers, the Ego Power Mower is incredibly quiet. You’ll be able to mow your lawn without disturbing your neighbors or waking up your family on a lazy Sunday morning.
- Ego Self-propelled: The Ego Power Mower is self-propelled, which means you won’t have to push it around your lawn. Instead, the mower will move forward on its own, making it even easier to use. (They do have electric mowers that are not self-propelled)
- Adjustable height: You can easily adjust the height of the Ego Power Mower to suit your preferences. With six different height settings, you can choose the perfect length for your lawn.
Benefits Of An EGO Self-Propelled Lawn Mower
There are many benefits to using the EGO lawn mower. Let’s take a look at some of the most significant advantages:
- Environmental: The Ego Power Mower is much more environmentally friendly than gas-powered mowers. It produces no emissions, which means you’ll be doing your part to reduce your carbon footprint.
- Cost-effective: While the initial cost of the Ego Power Mower may be higher than a traditional gas-powered mower, it will save you money in the long run. You won’t have to spend money on gas or oil, and you won’t have to pay for expensive maintenance.
- Convenient: With a cordless electric mower, you’ll have the convenience of being able to mow your lawn whenever you want. You won’t have to worry about finding a power source or untangling cords.
- Easy to use: The Ego Power Mower is incredibly easy to use, even if you’re not experienced with lawn maintenance. The one I have is self-propelled, which means you won’t have to push it around your lawn, and it’s lightweight, which makes it easy to maneuver.
Drawbacks
While the Ego Power Mower has many benefits, it’s not without its drawbacks. Here are a few drawbacks:
- Battery life: While the battery can last up to an hour, it may not be enough to mow larger lawns. If you have a big lawn, you may need to buy a spare battery. I was able to mow my lawn and I did part of my neighbor’s yard in under 30 min.
- Cost: The initial cost of the Ego Power Mower may be higher than a traditional gas-powered mower. However, as I mentioned earlier, it will save you money in the long run. When I consider that I was paying $150 a month for lawn care service, it was a no-brainer for me.
- Not as powerful: While the Ego 56v electric lawn mower is powerful enough for most lawns, it may not be suitable for very thick or overgrown lawns.

Things To Consider When Choosing An Electric Cordless Lawnmower
When it comes to lawn maintenance, choosing the right mower can make a world of difference. Battery-powered electric mowers offer a clear advantage over gas mowers in terms of maintenance. Unlike gas mowers, battery mowers don’t require tune-ups or oil changes, making them much easier to maintain over time. That being said, both types of mowers will require occasional blade sharpening, so keep that in mind when considering your options.
Another key factor to consider is yard size. While battery mowers can be great for yards smaller than â…“ acre, they may not be the best choice for larger yards. The last thing you want is for your battery mower to die before you finish the job, leaving you with an incomplete or unevenly mowed lawn. In this case, a gas mower may be the better option, as they typically have longer run times and can cover more ground on a single tank of gas.
In terms of emissions, battery mowers also have a clear advantage over gas mowers. Battery mowers produce no exhaust emissions, making them much cleaner and more environmentally friendly than their gas-powered counterparts. If reducing your carbon footprint is a priority, a battery mower is definitely the way to go.
Overall, when choosing between a battery mower and a gas mower, it’s important to consider factors such as maintenance, yard size, and emissions. While battery mowers offer several advantages over gas mowers, they may not be the best choice for everyone. By carefully weighing your options and considering your unique needs and circumstances, you can make the best possible choice for your lawn and for the environment.
——– Lawn & Garden Tips ——–
- Mow regularly: Mowing your lawn regularly helps to keep it healthy and attractive. Set your mower to the right height for your grass type, and try not to cut off more than one-third of the grass blade at a time
- Fertilize appropriately: Use a fertilizer that’s appropriate for your grass type, and apply it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Be careful not to over-fertilize, as this can harm your lawn and contribute to pollution.
- Control weeds: Weeds can compete with your grass for water and nutrients, so it’s important to keep them under control. Use a pre-emergent herbicide to prevent weeds from sprouting, and use a post-emergent herbicide to kill existing weeds.
- Test your soil: Test your soil to determine its pH and nutrient levels. This information can help you choose the right plants for your garden and make informed decisions about fertilizing.
- Take the time to clean your yard of debris, broken and fallen limbs from branches that could result in damage to your mower.
