Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray
This article is all about the beauty and complexity of why Agreeable Gray is just so friggin popular. Let’s be honest, if you type in “Gray Paint” or “Sherwin Williams” AG is going to pop up. It really is the G.O.A.T of modern paint colors.
Here is a little secret – Agreeable Gray is not gray at all, it’s more of a “Greige” beige paint.
Sherwin Williams agreeable gray paint is a mixture of warm and cools when blended together creating the ultimate backdrop that compliments any room in the house. Literally, everything in your home will go with agreeable gray. This explains why it is the default color for so many home builders across the United States and abroad. This awesome color is one of DR. Horton’s main interior paint colors. DR Horton (America’s Homebuilder) loves using Agreeable Gray as a standard color in their new construction homes.
I had the opportunity to visit the UK in 2019 for the holidays and I made it a point to stop by several new construction home sites. Agreeable Gray was the prominent color on display at 3 different locations.
We all know that a fresh coat of paint will do wonders for any room, thus don’t run out and purchase new furniture, new rugs, and artwork. Take a step back and start painting a wall. Painting is much cheaper than a new couch from Wayfair or Ashley Homestore.
As a licensed real estate broker in Georgia, I always recommend Agreeable Gray to my clients who are looking to put their homes on the market. If a home needs a refreshing coat of paint, then I’m recommending Agreeable Gray. It’s the top neutral color on the market. It’s timeless and classic. The other cool thing to note is that it looks like a different color in every individual home.
Is Agreeable Gray SW 7029 A Cool Or Warm Color?
Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray, also known as SW 7029, is considered a warm gray color. It blends in nicely with other colors and tends to take on a variety of hues that may appear warmer or cooler. I’m sure that you’ve looked at the paint in a model home then seen the same paint in another model home and assumed it was two different colors.
While gray is generally considered a neutral color, it can have undertones that make it appear cooler or warmer. In the case of the paint color Agreeable Gray, it has warm undertones, which gives it a slightly beige or taupe-like appearance. This warm undertone helps make it more versatile, as it can complement a wide range of colors and styles, from cool and modern to warm and traditional. Additionally, warm grays like Agreeable Gray can help make a room feel more cozy, comfortable and inviting. You can find the best Gray Cool Colors From Sherwin Williams right here.
What Are The Undertones In Agreeable Gray Paint Color
Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray Undertones
- Beige
- Gray
Sherwin-Williams agreeable gray is mostly beige with a slight gray undertone. The light in the room definitely plays a major factor in what version you see. This is why you can walk from one room to another and the paint on the wall will look a completely different color. It is a creamy beige with gray in my opinion. It is my color of choice for buyers and sellers.
What Is Greige?
What exactly is greige? As the name implies, it is a combination of gray and beige. Sherwin Williams hit the proverbial jackpot with this color combination. Gray is still trending as the most popular paint color. If you are looking for a true gray, then agreeable gray is not it. If you are looking for a warm grey, then you are in the right place. Traditionally we think of grey being a cool color (which lends itself to implying – coldness and starkness).
Most of my home buyers love that they can stay in the grey family but still have warmth throughout their home by choosing Agreeable Gray. It also allows my buyers to complement items that they already own.
Agreeable Gray Accent Walls
Everyone wants an accent wall. The perfect combination may be to go two shades darker than your primary color. Accent walls are a great way to add dimension to a space that may need a little jazzing up. See my accent walls below. Choose the main color for your primary walls and then select a color within the coordinating color or go bold and select a color that is the complete opposite of your colors. Because Agreeable Gray is such a neutral paint color, it pretty much can be used in combination with any color on the accent wall.

Why Does Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray Look Different In Every Room?
Lighting plays such a critical role in how paint appears throughout your home. Light that comes through in the morning tends to be cool, whereas afternoon light tends to be much warmer. Paint colors can be affected by the lighting in a room, and this is especially true for gray colors like Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray.
- In a North-facing room, which typically receives less natural light, Agreeable Gray may appear more gray or neutral in tone. The cool light coming in from the North tends to mute colors, which can make the Agreeable Gray appear less warm, and potentially more gray.
- West-facing rooms typically receive light in the afternoon and evening, when the sun is low in the sky. The light in these rooms can be warm and golden, with a yellow-orange undertone. West-facing rooms can also have a lot of glare in the afternoon.
- South-facing rooms on the other hand typically receive more natural light, Agreeable Gray may appear more warm and beige in tone. The warm light coming in from the south tends to enhance colors, which can make the Agreeable Gray appear more warm and beige, less gray.
- East-facing rooms typically receive natural light in the morning, when the sun is rising. The light in these rooms can be cool and blue-toned, with a slightly cool undertone.
It’s worth noting, however, that the effect of lighting on a paint color can also be affected by other factors such as the surrounding colors and the finish of the paint. If the room has a lot of white or light colors, Agreeable Gray will look a lot more gray and light, if there are more dark colors, it’ll look more beige.
Additionally, the paint finish you choose can also affect how Agreeable Gray appears. A flat or matte finish can make the color look more muted and less reflective, while a gloss or semi-gloss finish can make the color appear more vibrant and lively.
As always, it’s a good idea to sample the color at home and observe it during different times of the day and under different lighting conditions before committing to a full paint job, especially with east-facing rooms as the color can change quite a lot depending on the lighting conditions. This is where Samplize samples can be a life saver.

Agreeable Gray Paint Color Review
Agreeable Gray vs. Benjamin Moore Collingwood OC-28
Collingwood (from Benjamin Moore) is one of the best-selling paints that Benjamin Moore offers. It has a nice balance of light to mid-toned greige. It is more warm than cool. The LRV (A color’s Light Reflectance Value (LRV) measures the amount of visible and usable light that reflects from (or absorbs into) a painted surface) of Collingwood is 62, thus it reflects slightly more light than Agreeable Gray which has an LRV of 60. The higher the value, the more light is reflected.
