Home Office Gallery Wall
In this post: I will be sharing tips on how to create a gallery wall, as well as revealing the “before” and “after” of my own art wall. If you are unsure of where to begin in creating a gallery wall, but would still love to have one in your home, this post is for you!
Are you looking to create an incredible and impressive gallery? Let me tell you that you can create a gallery wall with a few simple steps. Be mindful of some of the current Interior Design Trends that you may want to incorporate. Otherwise, go completely wild and make your wall uniquely your own.
If you’re like most people, your home office is probably in dire need of a little visual interest. A gallery wall is a perfect solution! Gallery walls are a great way to add personality to your space and make it feel more like home. Plus, they’re relatively easy to put together (and take down, if you ever need to change things up).
To create a gallery wall, start by gathering a few favorite prints or photos. You can mix and match frames, but try to stick to a cohesive color scheme for a polished look. Once you have your art selected, map out where everything will go before you start hanging anything. This will help you avoid any last-minute rearranging.
When it comes time to actually hang your gallery wall, use painter’s tape or removable adhesive hooks to avoid damaging your walls. Step back every so often to make sure everything looks good from afar—you don’t want your art pieces to be too close together or too far apart. And don’t be afraid to play around with different arrangements until you find something that feels just right.
Home Office Gallery Wall Reveal
I’m too excited to share this gallery wall office reveal. The weekend of April 1st turned out to be the perfect weekend to tackle my gallery wall in my office. Friday night I ended up at IHome and just decided that I would pick up a few pieces to add to the wall and I would use pieces that I already had. Sometimes we don’t know how awful something actually is until we make changes to it. Let me know what you think. Let’s kick it off with before and after photos.
I have no earthly idea what color this pink is. The Gray is Peppercorn Gray from Sherwin Williams and can be considered both cool and warm. It’s a great transitional color that compliments pretty much every color. It definitely has the glam factor. It is my base color, hence I use all throughout my home. Check out this list of Cool Grays if you need more inspiration. You can also obtain a sample of the Peppercorn Gray from Samplize.
The office credenza I already had from Ashley Furniture and opted to not change it out. I like my Hamlyn Home Office series from Ashley which you can shop the look. I love the elegance and masculine tone that my furniture brings. I wanted my artwork to speak to my vibe and how I feel. I’ve done a gallery wall before without realizing that there was a name for all of this.
Let me just say that my Saturday started with me waking up and deciding that I would go ahead and paint above the chair rail the same Sherwin Williams Peppercorn Gray that is below the chair rail. Not to mention that I still had a 1/2 gallon of paint left. One of my goals with doing my rehabs/ DIY projects is to try and use as much existing stuff vs. having to purchase new. I must admit that it turned out fabulous and I’m pleased with the paint results. As a side note, I turned on youtube – put on a Jazmine Sullivan Mix early on (It’s the beat & the vibe for me), and followed up with a mix of Grand Pubba and all of NYCs finest rappers. I then proceeded to dance and paint with a glass of spiced rum… Yes, I did and had a great time just doing me and my office.
Search The Clearance Aisles
Whenever I go shopping, I always hit up the clearance aisles first. I’m always amazed at some of the great finds that end up on clearance. One of my top finds to date was a beautiful picture that was on clearance at Haverty’s Furniture. I paid $125 for a picture that retailed for $925. I still believe that someone accidentally marked down the wrong picture. There are always good frames and artwork on clearance at Home Goods, Marshalls, TJMaxx and don’t sleep on clearance items at the Goodwill and Lowes.
My Inspiration for the gallery wall was to find bronze & gold pieces that would complement the artwork quote from Harper Lee. To Kill A Mockingbird is one of my favorite books. Everything does not have to match. Pick pieces that speak to you. I knew that I want a small mirror on the wall along with a cross, I consider myself spiritual vs religious.
Artwork does not have to be pricey. There are tons of free printables and graphics online. If you are searching for some cool digital downloadable art, then check out the Adinkra Symbols Collections on my Etsy Store. Yes, I have an Etsy Store. Be creative, you can always print off your favorite quotes and frame them. The black and white photo of my son and me is a print that I resized in Canva and printed on my HP Color Laser Printer.
How To Hang Gallery Wall Photos
It always helps to start with a blank slate. However, I was only redoing the wall behind my desk and honestly, I didn’t have the time nor the desire to strip my office down to the bare bones. I simply opted to take everything off the credenza, my desk, and fireplace and start painting. Between the music, good rum, and dancing I was able to paint everything in one afternoon. I opted to use Canva and take pictures of all of my items and make a blueprint. It was super easy.
You can also lay out the shapes of the items using brown craft paper and tape it to the wall. Most people will also layout the design on the floor first, then transfer it to the wall. I did the latter, laying out all the pieces on the floor as well as laying them out in Canva.
Easy Tips To Create The Perfect Gallery Wall (from our Friends at Z Gallerie)
- Cohesive color palette
- Mix Shapes and colors
- Hammer and Bang
It really is that simple. Find the wall that you want to use. And start with simply identifying your theme. Some designers like to put complementary shades together in order to evoke a more cohesive look. You can also achieve a cohesive look by grouping pictures that share a common theme.
You are only limited by your imagination. Go wild with it and mix shapes, colors, and even textures. Z Gallerie suggests that you start with your largest piece and work your way around that piece. Visit Z Gallerie for Gallery Wall Tips & More.
Get your hammer out and let’s start hanging. Make sure that you use the right size hooks to hang your artwork. I highly recommend the Plaster Picture Hangers 30lbs
Gallery Wall Photos – Mini Loft Area
Creating this office gallery wall, inspired me to go ahead and paint my wall that is in the mini-loft area and turn it into a gallery wall as well. Here are a few pictures to give you inspiration. I used all existing artwork that I had throughout my home. The pieces all ended up being women-related for the most part. Did you peep my original LaShun Beal?
I opted to create a gallery wall of mixed frames as my inspiration in my loft area. It’s a nice mixture of gallery wall vintage meets gallery wall chic.
