The Best Home Interior Design Trends
As the new year rolls around, new home design trends pop up. 2020-2021 was all about loving ourselves our families and loving Mother Earth. Concerns over Covid 19 and climate change are increasing our micro-level of awareness when it comes to sustainable living. In 2024 we’ve moved to refine our living space in order to find enjoyment in remaining home while incorporating sculptured furniture and boldness.
More and more households are opting to incorporate eco-friendly materials, vintage items, shopping with local artisans, and going green when possible.
In our current political climate, people are simply opting to ensure that their homes foster their mental wellness and a sense of zen within their homes. Families are opting to ensure that they have all the comforts of living at their fingertips. We are wanting to have family-friendly, spaces that incorporate our unique personal flair.
This translates into pools, prayer rooms, textured materials, pop of colors, and all things sustainable. I’ve rounded up 14 trends that we shall all see more of in 2024 along with the Top 2024 Hardwood Flooring Trends if you need to factor in flooring options into your designs.
Industrial Styling
Industrial interior style tends to incorporate earth elements such as exposed bricks, stoneworks, and metals. It’s coupled with high ceilings and classic greys and metals. This loft-style look is gaining popularity once again in 2024 as more and more people are spending a substantial amount of time at home.
The industrial style is a mix of traditional and modern as individuals find that balance of work, home, and play in a Covid19 induced society.
Sustainability Designs
This design trend has always been in the background, it is now being thrust to the forefront. Sustainability has become critically important. As society swings towards more eco-friendly lifestyles in an attempt to reverse climate change, people are more mother nature conscious and knowledgeable than ever before. “There’s an ethical component to their purchasing decisions,” says Ben Marshall who is the creative director of Hudson Valley Lighting Group.
Artisan And Vintage Decor
This will simply never go out of style. Nothing beats a simple vintage piece to add style to your space. This vibe is and will always make the list of design trends. What was in is out and what was out is back in. Dare I say that I love the Boho style!
Unique & Quirky Design Styles
People are going back to designing their homes to reflect their unique personalities and style preferences. The trends are moving away from the standard status quo and finding what makes us special in our own way and expressing that via our homes. For me, it is my wall of clocks.
Pops Of Pink
Even as a child I loved pink & gray, they have always been my favorite color combination. I think in the upcoming years, soft pink is going to be the new white. Pink will take a drab landscape and add a subtle touch of femininity to any space.
I can assure you that pink is not just for tweens. Stick to matted pinks and blush tone pinks to give you a more grown-up refined look
Two-Toned Kitchens
This one I’m excited about. While I was visiting London over Christmas (2019) I came across a design center in Cambridge- It had the swankiest kitchen – the bottom cabinets were painted black. The top cabinets were white and the island was a soft shade of pink. Needless to say, my major project for 2024 in my own home will be painting my kitchen cabinets.
Iconic white kitchens are out and are being replaced with two tones along with adding different textures to the countertops. I currently have what I call Basic B! counter-tops (Santa Cecilia Granite). I am not going to replace all my countertops, but I am going to replace the granite on my island peninsula
Mental Wellness
This isn’t new: the practice of Feng Shui, for instance, has a history going back thousands of years. A tidy home is a reflection of a clear and open mind. The popular Konmari Method, or “the life-changing magic of tidying up” is all the rave now. Its founder, Marie Kondo, takes inspiration from Feng Shui to ensure that organization and tidiness are a permanent life change. Ensuring that your space stimulates your mental wellness is critical. I’m going through the process in my own home to declutter, minimalize, and enjoy my space when I’m in it. — Find space within your home and create your Zen Den-
Out With Neutrals
Throw out the neutrals with the bathwater- Colors are here to take over. People want to be bold and live their best lives, and they are doing that in the design aesthetics that they choose within their homes. We may not be able to control the current political climate but we can choose how we make our homes look and feel.
Nobody wants boring. Everyone wants an Instagram life, hence they are creating this in the colors they choose. You are bound to see more and more bodacious colors either in their paint colors or furniture pieces.
Sculptural Pieces
Sculptural furniture is as iconic as apple pie. Imagine having a sweet chair that is unique to your style. Take a minute and view these stunning sculptural chairs – click here
Boucle
What in the world is boucle to begin with? Bouclé is both a yarn and a fabric made from it. The yarn is made from a length of loops of similar size which can range from tiny circlets to large curls. Bouclé provides texture to a sofa or side chair. Don’t get rid of your nana’s old sofa or her favorite chair. Instead, have it reupholstered with Boulce fabric- it’s guaranteed to breathe new life into your heirloom piece.
Pops Of Color
A nice pop of color is sure to create a bold look, however before you commit to that super bold red on your wall, I would highly suggest that you order a few samples.
Textures
When I purchased my current home back in 2009, I fell in love with my 12-foot brick archways. They added so much incredible texture to my space. I know that you may not be able to go out and recreate my archways, but you can add texture all throughout your space. Texture continues to add interest to rooms. Even a subtle amount of texture (plants, blankets, vases, dried flowers, and books) will change the feel of a room.
Social Zones
My entire home is a social zone, so much so that I actually rented my home out for small parties, baby showers pre-covid. We are going back to having friends gather for potlucks, game nights, movie nights, and such vs. heading out for night on the town as a result of social distancing. Incorporating my outdoor space as an extension of my home has enabled me to continue with this practice.
Prayer Zones
Everyone needs a higher power in their life. People are carving out space in their homes for praying, meditating, and simply connecting with what makes them feel at peace. I have a corner nook in my media room that pays homage to all of the major religions, hence I have a budda, cross, Bible, and Koran all on display together.
